Contemporary Forms of Slavery
.
بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم Statement By Ms. Sheida Noruzi Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran Before The Human Rights Council 51th Session Item 3: ID with Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Slavery Geneva, 15 September 2022 Mr. Vice. President, My delegation takes note of the report of the Special Rapporteur (A/HRC/51/26) entitled “Contemporary forms of slavery affecting persons belonging to ethnic, religious and linguistic minority communities”. Combating slavery and slavery-like practices requires genuine collective endeavors to cultivate a culture of ‘inherent equality’ amongst human kind and rejection of any sort of superiority and subjugation. This is very much dependent on creation of an enabling international environment where human equality, development, eradication of poverty and justice are prevalent and coercion of all sorts are rejected. Mr. Vice. President, Women and girls are bearing the brunt of modern slavery as they are among the main victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation and pornography. We reiterate the importance of addressing the role of porn industry, euphemistically branded as adult film industry, in contributing significantly to trafficking for sexual exploitation that has reduced women and girls into a tool for entertainment and atrocious abuse. Mr. Vice. President, We concur with the Special Rapporteur that deep- rooted systematic, historical and institutionalized discrimination as well as other causes must be sufficiently addressed in every measure aimed at providing remedies for victims of new forms of slavery. We are well- aware that systematic discrimination paves the way for the impunity of the perpetrators as well as stigmatization in mass media and even the language itself, which is noted by the Special Rapporteur. I thank you Mr. Vice. President,
