H.E. Dr. Mohsen Naziri Asl, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN office in Geneva, in a letter adressed H.E Zeid Ra’ad Zeid Al-Hussein, the new United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on his appointment and the expectation of Non-Aligned Movement reffered to the following:
"In my capacity as Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, I would like to warmly congratulate you on your assumption as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and I wish you every success in your tenure. This is an important but challenging task to which you bring extensive expertise, experience and a strong commitment to the promotion and protection of all human rights.
The Non-Aligned Movement remains committed to supporting you during your term of responsibility and I would like to reiterate NAM’s firm commitment to constructively work with you with a view to promote, protect and fully realize all human rights and fundamental freedoms, to be guided by the principles of, non-selectivity, objectivity and transparency, in a manner consistent with the purposes and principles set out in the UN Charter and to strengthen the credibility of the human rights apparatus, in conformity with the IB package, with the final objective of reinforcing our collective efforts, based on inclusion, justice, equality and equity, human dignity, mutual understanding and promotion of and respect for cultural diversity and universal human rights.
The Movement is also confident that you will do your utmost so that particular consideration would be paid, amongst many important issues for the NAM, to the right to development in the context of the elaboration of the post-2015 development agenda to be aimed at building a new, more equitable and sustainable national and international order, based on the foundation of human rights.
We do hope that the course for further improvements on the OHCHR work will be continued, for further advancing the decisions taken in the past, taking into account the Strategic Framework adopted by the General Assembly as well as the relevant resolutions of the Human Rights Council with respect to the work of the Office which call for transparency, coordination and equitable allocation and rational utilization of resources.
